Roger Macintosh and I examined the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art group show tonight.

The difference between digital ART and digital photography is like that ambiguous space between drawing and painting.

Too much of the show looked like straight photography - and it was either seamless special effects that were over my head or it was just straight photography done on computer output. The show at Pharmaka next door was all painting and I warned Roger about Bruce Nauman's experiments with holograms in the early 70s - that a new medium is just as likely to be a transient infatuation than it is a permanent fixture with which to be reckoned.

The Carrie Ungerman show at Bank was cool, there were two other artists with strong work - one had sculptures that were cut with a computer program - see, that to me is the strength of digital art - the fabrication of objects in compositions previously unimaginable that are apparent in digital space.

I got a new pair of shoes delivered UPS, they are comfortable and stylish. Walking with Roger around the downtown L.A. Gallery Row was like walking on air. Merrells, the only shoe I can wear anymore. And they don't even pay me to endorse them.

Weekend recommendations:
Go to the Carol Es solo exhibition opening at Highways on Friday
and the Brian Ruppel solo exhibition opening at Glendale Community College on Saturday.
OR stay home and shop at the Coagula eBay store for a look at art history the way it really happened.
